Our parent institution is the University of Missouri - Kansas City. This is
one of four campuses in the University of Missouri system. The University of Missouri -
Columbia also has a medical school and is located in the center of the state, about 120
miles (two hours drive) to the east. The main campus at Kansas City is located about
forty-third street. It is a lovely collegiate setting in a moderate income residential
area. For more information on the University of Missouri - Kansas City visit their web
site at http://www.umkc.edu.
The School of Medicine and Truman Medical Center are located approximately
three miles north of the University at 23rd Street in an area called "Hospital
Hill" which is near Crown Center and the Hallmark Corporate offices. The School
of Medicine is a combined six year BA-MD program with approximately 100 students in each
class. These students start directly out of high school and attend classes 11 months
of the year. The School of Medicine is designed on the "docent system,"
which is a team consisting of two students from each of the last four years and a
"docent" who is generally an internal medicine faculty. This team has a
cluster of offices together and they are scheduled for all internal medicine rotations and
clinics together as a team. This unique approach to medical education has been used as a
model for multiple medical schools. For more information about the medical school, visit
their web site at www.med.umkc.edu
